Ahmet Cem Ersever was a Turkish Army officer born on July 22, 1965. He gained notoriety in Turkey for his alleged involvement in the organization and execution of the 1993 Sivas massacre, where 37 people died in an arson attack.
Ersever was also known for his alleged involvement in the extrajudicial killings of Kurdish militants and political dissidents in the southeastern provinces of Turkey in the 1990s.
In 1996, Ersever retired from the Turkish Army and became a private security consultant. He gained international fame as the author of the book, "Sonsuz Nur: 2. Abdülhamid Han ve Sultanlık Türkiye'nin Gerçekleri" (Eternal Light: The Realities of Sultan Abdulhamid II and the Ottoman Empire), which claimed to reveal dark secrets about the Ottoman era.
In 2012, Ersever was found dead in his Istanbul apartment under mysterious circumstances. Conspiracy theories about his death circulated, with some suggesting he may have been assassinated for his controversial views. The cause of his death remains officially unknown.
